It’s Avocado Season in Upcountry Maui

Where to Find the Best Avo Goodness

It’s officially avocado season in Upcountry Maui and honestly, is there anything better?

That rich, buttery goodness of a perfectly ripe avocado just hits different when it’s grown right on your island. In Kula, avo season usually runs January through April, which means we’re in the sweet spot for all your avocado dreams to come true

If you haven’t made the trip yet, treat yourself to a stop at Oko‘a Farms a family-owned organic farm in Kula. They recently-ish opened a sweet little storefront at the Kula Malu Center, so you can pop in any day of the week and see what’s good.

Upcountry growers like Kula Country Farms are also stocked with seasonal produce at their farm stand plus it’s one of the cutest spots for the keiki to explore.

And don’t forget:

Guac tutorial? Ya girl has got you covered

Step 1

Chop:

  • Tomatoes (remove the seeds)
  • Onion (red or yellow)
  • Jalapeños & serranos (remove seeds if you’re not looking for the fire)
*Pro tip: Rub a little olive oil on your hands before chopping peppers. It helps keep the spice from sticking so you won’t regret touching your eyes later.
  • Garlic
  • Cilantro

Add:

  • Salt & pepper
*Pro tip: Cut the avocados last. Prep can take longer than you think, and avocados brown fast.

Step 2

Scoop the avocados into your bowl with the other ingredients.

*Pro tip: Don’t mash. Gently cut and fold everything together with a knife and spoon. The avocado will naturally soften while keeping those chunky bites.

Step 3

Squeeze that lime baby. Don’t be shy on this one. Taste. Add a little more salt if need

Step 4

GRIND

Step 5

Be ready to receive mass amounts of compliments, handshakes, hugs, chest bumps, shout outs and witness the tears of joy. Stay humble
